We offer Schedule 40 Sch 40S thickness stainless steel pipe in a large range of dimensions, the commonly used grades have 304/304L 316/316L stainless steel, Schedule 40 pipe is used for high-pressure and high-temperature conditions, typically in fluid transportation including water, oil & gas, petrochemical engineering & chemical.
There are wide stainless steel pipe dimensions to choose from, large diameter, heavy wall, or small diameter is available, the SCH is an abbreviation of Schedule, schedule 40 refers to the wall thickness of the pipe, the wall thickness varies based on the nominal pipe size (NPS) accordingly, the thicker the wall thickness with the same NPS dimensions when the number increases, for example, Sch 80 pipe is thicker than Sch 40 pipe at NPS 3″ diameter.
The relationship between pipe size, schedules and wall thicknesses is simply to refer to a conversion chart in mm based on ASME B36.19 & ASME B36.10 dimensions, for Carbon Steel and Wrought iron Pipe as per ASME B36.10, for Stainless Steel Pipe as per ASME B36.19, the Schedule No. with the letter “S”, which means stainless steel and Schedule 40S stands for stainless steel pipe thickness.

FAQ
SCH 40 is the same as STD for NPS 1⁄8 to NPS 10, inclusive, and also SCH 40S is the same thickness, the STD is the same thickness in 9.53 mm when the diameter is larger than 10″.
Schedule 40 refers to carbon steel and wrought iron pipe thickness, and Schedule 40S refers to stainless steel pipe thickness, Schedule 40 is the same as Schedule 40S in thickness for NPS from 1/8″ to 10″ in diameter.
