Stainless Steel Pipe Sizes And Dimensions
Standard dimensions for welded and seamless wrought steel pipe for high or low temperatures and pressures are described in ASME B36.10. Standard dimensions for welded and seamless wrought stainless steel pipe are described in ASME B36.19. The suffix “S” in the Schedule Number differentiates the B36.19 pipe from the B36.10 pipe. ASME B36.10 includes other pipe thicknesses which are also commercially available with stainless steel material. For special use, heavy wall or light wall pipe can be provided, usually, it is round shape, plain end and beveled end are available.
- Outside diameter: min size 1/8 in., max size 40 in., DN6 to DN1000.
- Wall thickness: SCH 5, 5S, 10, 10S, 20, 30, 40, 40S, 60, 80, 80S, 100, 120, 140, 160, STD, XS and XXS, 1.24mm to 25.4mm.

Pipe Sizes and Dimensions
Industrial pipe sizes range from NPS 1/8 inch to NPS 48 inch in outside diameter, and wall thickness ranges from Sch 5 to Sch 160, including Schedule No. identified as Standard (STD), Extra Strong (XS) and Double Extra Strong (XXS), these sizes are specified in ANSI/ASME B36.10M standard.
NPS refers to Nominal Pipe Size, which defines the pipe outside, and Schedule defines the thickness, they have corresponding values in mm sizes, see ANSI Pipe Schedule B36.19 & B36.10.
Pipe sizes in NPS are often confused, less than NPS 14 inch size is not the actual diameter, and over NPS 14 inch size is the actual diameter, that must be noticed.
Specifications
The common manufacturing standard specification for stainless steel pipe is ASTM A312, other standards are available, such as ASTM A358, and A778, these standards specify basic requirements, such as grades, sizes, tolerances, tests, and pipe should be manufactured in compliance with standards.
Industrial pipe can be welded pipe and seamless pipe, selecting which pipe depending on applications, generally, seamless pipe has higher strength than welded pipe, and may have a long lifetime, welded pipe is a cost-effective option, with welding technology improvement, in many conditions, welded pipe can replace seamless pipe.
