ASTM B167 UNS N06600 Seamless Pipe & Tube

ASTM B167 UNS N06600 is an Inconel nickel-iron-chromium alloy with a minimum 72% nickel content, it exhibits good resistance to high-temperature corrosion and oxidation, excellent cold and hot processing and welding performance. ASTM B167 UNS N06600 seamless pipe & tube is manufactured in cold-worked annealed, hot-worked annealed, and hot-finished intended for general corrosion-resistant and heat-resistant applications. UNS N06600 is a high-temperature alloy, Inconel 600 is the equivalent of uns N06600, which is mainly composed of nickel, iron, chromium and other elements, and has excellent high-temperature strength, corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance, and is suitable for use in high-temperature and highly corrosive environments.

ASTM SB167 UNS N06600 seamless pipe & tube is strictly conformed to the standard, the following test methods shall be performed on the alloys, including chemical analysis, tension test, and hydrostatic or nondestructive electric test. The material shall conform to the required mechanical properties such as tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, nondestructive electric test, and rounding method.

ASTM B167 UNS N06600 Tube Dimensions and tolerances

Diameter, Wall Thickness, and Length—The permissible variations in the outside diameter and wall thickness shall conform to the permissible variations prescribed in the Permissible Variations for Outside Diameter and Wall Thickness of Seamless Cold-Worked Pipe and Tube, Permissible Variations for Outside Diameter and Wall Thickness of Hot-Finished Tube, and Permissible Variations for Outside Diameter and Wall Thickness of Seamless Hot-Worked Pipe tables in Specification B829. The permissible variations in the length shall conform to the permissible variations prescribed in the Permissible Variations in Length table in Specification B829.

Small diameter and light-wall tube (converter size) shall conform to the permissible variations prescribed in Table X1.2.

Hydrostatic Test

Each pipe or tube with an outside diameter 1⁄8 in. (3 mm) and larger and with wall thickness of 0.015 in. (0.38 mm) and over shall be tested by the manufacturer to an internal hydrostatic pressure of 1000 psi (6.9 MPa) provided that the fiber stress calculated in accordance with the following equation does not exceed the allowable fiber stress, S, indicated as follows:

t= minimum wall thickness, in. (or mm), equal to the specified nominal wall minus the permissible minus wall tolerance, or the specified minimum wall thickness.

D = outside diameter of the pipe or tube, in. (or mm).

S = allowable fiber stress, for material in the condition (temper) furnished as follows:

ASTM B167 UNS N06600 Seamless Pipe & Tube Application:

  • Petrochemical industry: UNS N06600 is widely used in the petrochemical industry, such as oil refineries, chemical plants and other high-temperature and strong corrosive environments of the device, such as storage tanks, heat exchangers, reactors and so on.
  • Aerospace industry: UNS N06600 is widely used in aerospace in the manufacture of aviation engines, rocket engines, aviation axles, aviation tyres and other components, as well as a variety of high-temperature, strong corrosive environments of equipment manufacturing.
  • Nuclear power industry: UNS N06600 is used in nuclear power plants as heat exchangers, steam generators and reactors in the construction and manufacture of fans, pumps and pipelines and other nuclear equipment.
  • Electronics industry: UNS N06600 is widely used in the electronics field for high temperature sealing materials, vacuum fittings, thermocouples and so on.
  • Automotive industry: UNS N06600 is used in automotive manufacturing for equipment in high temperature and strong corrosive environments, such as turbochargers, exhaust pipes and other parts.

ASTM B163 covers nickel-chromium-iron alloys (UNS N06600, N06601, N06603, N06690, N06693, N06025, N06045, and N06696) and nickel-chromium-cobalt molybdenum alloy (UNS N06617). The material shall conform to the required chemical composition for nickel, chromium, iron, manganese, molybdenum, cobalt, aluminum, carbon, copper, boron, silicon, sulfur, titanium, niobium, phosphorous, zirconium, yttrium, and cerium.
